7. What is the difference between an inventory item and a product?

Inventory items are what you are buying from your suppliers, fishers, fish farmers. Products are what you are selling. *Sometimes Inventory Items are ALSO Products e.g. you buy a can of tuna and you resell that tuna in the can. In many instances you will be reselling the product in a different form though e.g. you buy a whole salmon but you sell salmon fillets or if you’re a restaurant you sell a salmon burger. In that instance your inventory item is not being “Sold As Is” and will need to be added to a product with the correct name and selling sku e.g. “Fish Burger, SKU 222335”.

8. How to Add a New Inventory Item.

Head to your account on the platform and to your sustainable seafood program. To add new items you will select “inventory” and if you are only adding a few items at a time you can click the blue plus button. If you need to add many items at once you can see our section on how to mass upload inventory items.

9. How to Mass Upload Inventory Items.

You will download our CSV file linked at the top right of the “partner inventory” section, fill that out and upload it into the platform.

10. How to Add a New Product.

As with inventory items products can be added in bulk or in singularly. Once you have added products you will need to add seafood to the products. This will determine the Ocean Wise status of your products. To add any item from your seafood inventory to a product select the three dots beside the product you want to add the seafood to and then search the pop list of your inventory for the seafood to include in the products. You will need to indicate whether the seafood makes up more than 5% of all the seafood found in the product. Any seafood making up LESS than 5% of all seafood contained in the product is a “Minor” seafood component.

11. How to Deactivate or Archive Inventory and Products.

Select the products you would like to remove from your list and under “actions” select “archive”.

12. How to tell if my Inventory is Ocean Wise Recommended.

Each inventory item will have a “status” which will indicate if that inventory item is Recommended OR Not Recommended. Any seafoods that have no assessment data available to tell us whether that product is or isn’t recommended will simply show as “Reviewed” to indicate our team has finished checking that item and no further action is needed from you but there is simply no recommendation status possible.
