Thank you for signing up for the Ocean Wise Shoreline Cleanup. We have received the following information from the City of Vancouver:

The City of Vancouver’s Neighbourhood Cleanup Party (NCP) is a program that supports individual and community cleanup initiatives. By registering with the program, participants would be provided with free basic cleanup supplies, equipment on loan, and assistance in the removal of the waste you collect.

Registering with the NCP program would be in addition to your registration with our cleanup program but does not add any additional steps to your actual cleanup.

To Register: Visit https://vancouver.ca/people-programs/apply-to-host-a-cleanup.aspx or call 604-871-6443 for more information. You can also email [email protected]. Note that the City of Vancouver requires at least 7 business days notice for any equipment or garbage removal requests.

General waste removal instructions:

The simplest way to dispose of your post cleanup garbage is to take it home and include it with your home waste pickup or use any existing litter containers in parks. If this is not possible, garbage can be arranged with the City when you register with their program.

Please note:

• On Vancouver beaches and parks – tents, catered food, amplified sound, alcohol, and company signage/banners are not permitted, unless you apply for a permit: Complete the online application. Application must be sent 4 months in advance of your cleanup event.

• Please do not attempt to pick up needles. Instead, please call Coastal Health’s Needle Hotline for pickup: 604 657-6561.

• For other sharps, as well as large abandoned items, please call 311 or report them using the Van311 app for pickup.

Don’t forget to pay special attention to catch basins when you’re cleaning as that’s one way litter can make its way out to our local waterways. For those of you that live or work within the City of Vancouver, you may also wish to join the Adopt a Catch Basin program and help maintain a catch basin near you. It’s easy to clear leaves and debris from catch basins to help minimize localized flooding during heavy rains and prevent litter from getting into our waterways. It’s also fun to give your catch basin a “catchy name”.
