The Whale Health and Monitoring Program (part of Ocean Wise’s Whales Initiative) focuses on both applying cutting-edge science to monitor at-risk whales (including dolphins and porpoises) and developing novel conservation tools to protect populations globally. At present, the program has conducted on-the-water research in British Columbia, Washington State, and California, and includes a state-of-the-art Environmental DNA Laboratory in West Vancouver, BC. Research staff use the latest scientific techniques including drones, bioacoustics, artificial intelligence, and environmental DNA to collect and analyze data on whale health and inspire conservation action where whales need it most.
